Chungking Mansions houses many people of different religions and races. They don't bother each othersˇ¦ life. What they most concern is just their own living and the money they can earn. However, on the forth floor of the Mansions, someone tries to bring hope to the poor no matter which races and religions of the people are. They try to help such people not because of money, but because of the Christian faith they hold. They are the Inner City Ministries (ICM), which is a branch of the St. Andrewˇ¦s Church of T.S.T..
To most
Hong Kong people, Chungking Mansions is quite famous because of the social and
legal problems there. For example, drug abuse, prostitution, illegal employments
and illegally over staying in Hong Kong, etc. Recognizing such problems, ICM
started to station at Chungking Mansions since 1994.
ICM help people who seek help to understand and fulfill their legal obligations, and by training people with essential employment skills. ICM also help to restore the quality of life. They do this by helping drug users to relieve their physical addicts and to integrate them to society.
Divided into the Menˇ¦s and
Womenˇ¦s House, the ICM target to the morality and practice of Islam:
different genders have to be separated in social activities.
Although the religions
and the races of the people who
seek help from ICM are very different, the organization is still willing to
offer help to those people. 'We do so only because we have the mission from God.
We are asked to bring light to the dark world,' said Pasty, one of the
volunteers with ICM.
Going
out of the gloomy alleyway of the Chungking Mansions, there were crowds of
prostitute waiting for business. It seems that there is still a long way for ICM
to go.
